Study Claims Divorce Can Result in Illness

According to Bloomberg News, a recent study by the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention concluded that those people who experience divorce generally are more susceptible to health problems caused by the onset of stress. Health problems in this case included diabetes and even cancer. Statistically, divorced people suffer from chronic health problems nearly 20% more than those people who are married.

According to the National Institutes for Health, the divorce rate in the United States is just about 50%. Grounds for Divorce in Colorado

The article explains that there is truly just one legal reason for divorce in Colorado, and it is ‘irretrievable breakdown of the marriage’. Paul McCartney’s Former Wife Still Upset Over Divorce Settlement

The website starpulse.com reported in an article on April 20, 2009 that Heather Mills is still angry about the $33.6 million divorce settlement she was awarded from former Beatle Paul McCartney. McCartney filed for divorce from his wife Mills in March 2008. Mills used a speaking engagement in London for a vegetarian charity “Viva” to express her disappointment with the sum she was awarded saying it was not high enough.

Mills said, “I got five per cent of what we earned together in seven years. And we earned it together; I worked my butt off doing the tours and everything.”

Mills is known for being outspoken and charges up to $102,000 to speak at after-dinner events.

Mills said, “Everyone thinks I’m nuts because I speak the truth and I’m very outspoken. The meat industry hates me, the dairy industry hates me, the Beatle industry hates me, the landmine industry. So I have a lot of enemies out there. But I also have a lot of support.”

Are Divorces Declining Due to the Economy?

An article on the website sacbee.com reported on April 28, 2009 that divorce filings across the country have slipped considerably during 2008 from the previous year. Hal Bartholomew, president-elect of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ Northern California chapter said, “I’m not surprised. Most divorce lawyers across the country are seeing a drop in new-client calls, people are postponing the decision to divorce.” Officials believe that couples are trying to get by, if not for the kids, but for the house. It is still unclear what the lasting effects of the current recession will be, but the divorce rates did plunge during the Depression.

Spousal Support Dispute: Hulk Hogan’s Wife Wants More Money After OJ Comments

According to a report, Linda Bollea, wife of former wrestler Hulk Hogan, has asked the court for thousands of dollars more in spousal support so that she can move across the country. Hogan recently gave an interview to Rolling Stone magazine where he said that he understood how O.J. Simpson could have been driven to do what he did. Simpson was acquitted of murdering his wife Nicole Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in 1993, and like many people Hogan also believes Simpson got away with murder.

In the interview Hogan whose real name is Terry Bollea said he was enticed to assault his wife “like O.J.” which caused outrage and brought about a swift response to clarify his comments.

A representative for Hogan said, “Hulk in no way condones the O.J. situation. As part of a larger conversation, he referred to it to exemplify his frustration with his own situation.”

Linda Bollea did not find any jest in the comments and has filed court papers in Pinellas County, Florida. Bollea is claiming she feels she’s in “imminent danger of becoming a victim.” She is asking for an additional $8,200 a month from Hogan so that she can move “thousands of miles away.” She also is requesting $24,000 for “advanced rent and security deposits” in order to move from Miami to California.

Actress Kate Walsh’s Divorce Intensifies

Multi-Million Divorce Lawsuit Reveals All

An account reported that a multi-million dollar divorce lawsuit between George David, 66, a wealthy aging man, and Marie Douglas-David, 36, a tall Swedish blond, has made national headlines because the details in court papers reveal everything from accusations of affairs, imprisonment, to a $100 million lawsuit. Douglas-David has been offered $43 million to settle but she contends that is not merely enough to maintain her lifestyle. She has filed suit for $100 million dollars to fight for more spousal support.

Anne Draninis, David’s lawyer said, “She always wants more, more, more. Too much is never enough.”

In an attempt to support her claims, Douglas-David presented the court with documentation that showed the minimum amounts of money she required on a weekly basis. According to those court papers she needs $4,500 a week for clothes, $53,000 a week for living expenses, $1,500 for eating out, and $8,000 for travel. Douglas-David stated that her husband’s $43 million dollar offer would not hold to her lifestyle for more than 15 years, and therefore forced to go to court.

Both sides have accused each other of having affairs, including David who is alleged to have spent more than $250,000 on detectives to find his wife with a Swedish fencing champion in Stockholm. Douglas-David claims he once told her, “If you improve and behave, you can have in-vitro fertilization.”

David did not help himself in court when he answered, “I don’t remember specific conversations with Marie … it’s like you go home and talk to the dog,” to a question as to whether his wife had given him valuable financial advice.

Messy Divorce in Secretary of Navy Nominee’s Past

The nytimes.com reported in an article on March 30, 2009 that President Obama’s nominee for Secretary of Navy, Ray Mabus, had been involved in a divorce that included him clandestinely tape recording a conversation he had with his wife and priest. Mabus served in the Navy during the Vietnam War on the warship cruiser Little Rock, is a former governor of Mississippi, and former ambassador to Saudi Arabia, used the tapes he recorded, on the advice of his lawyer, against his former wife Julie in court.

After learning Julie was having an affair, Mabus was advised by his lawyer at the time to make a recording of the supposed reconciliation talk with Reverend McBride the couple’s friend. During the session Julie acknowledges the affair and said, “I will hate you till the day I die, and I will tell my children.”

Mr. Mabus used an expert psychiatric witness, and with the secret recordings used as evidence in the proceedings, was granted legal custody of their two daughters.

Saying she regretted her comments, Julie sued Reverend McBride and the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi in the year 2002. The suit gained national attention as a potential court case against churches regarding privacy rights. The Mississippi Supreme Court will most likely consider and appeal after the case was dismissed by a judge in 2006.

Ex Largo City Official Gets Sex Change, Wife Wants Divorce

According to a  story, the wife of Susan Stanton, formerly Steve Stanton and city manager of Largo city, wants a divorce after his sex change plans were announced to the public.  Donna Stanton filed for divorce approximately a year after Steve Stanton announced his sex change plans. This created national news and ultimately cost him the highest position in Largo.

Currently living as a woman named, “Susan”, Stanton is waiting for spring, which is when his sex change operation is scheduled to take place.
