Ex Largo City Official Gets Sex Change, Wife Wants Divorce
By Denver Divorce Lawyer on April 1, 2009
According to a story, the wife of Susan Stanton, formerly Steve Stanton and city manager of Largo city, wants a divorce after his sex change plans were announced to the public. Donna Stanton filed for divorce approximately a year after Steve Stanton announced his sex change plans. This created national news and ultimately cost him the highest position in Largo.
Currently living as a woman named, “Susan”, Stanton is waiting for spring, which is when his sex change operation is scheduled to take place.
The divorce comes as no surprise and proceedings are friendly according to both sides. The Stanton’s had been married for 17 years.
Marriage is a sacred union, and when two people get married, they plan to spend the rest of their lives together. Unfortunately in this day and age, a majority of married couples are getting divorced. According to the 2000 U.S. Census almost 10% of people age fifteen and over were divorced in the United States.
Many states view divorce differently and have different rules as to what may warrant a divorce. The State of Colorado follows a “no fault” divorce law, which means that either the husband or wife can request dissolution of marriage merely because the marriage is broken and they do not feel that the marriage can be repaired.
If you are considering a divorce in the state of Colorado, the skilled Denver divorce attorneys at Kaplan Law can assist you. They have over 20 years experience in family law. They can also assist in the division of personal items which were acquired during the marriage, as well as the determination of monthly spousal support, if warranted.
